Tech Inspection

Technical Inspectors are entrusted with all aspects of safety and the majority of thier work is checking of competition and support vehicles.

You will be conducting a thorough and impartial inspection of each vehicle/bike presented for technical inspection. Using the Technical Inspection Check Sheets, the inspectors will make an assesment as to whether a vehicle/bike complies or does not comply with the rules and regulations.
 

NOTE: Technical Inspection can include the classification or designation of vehicles.

You will need to include your name, member number (optional), job, day/date and morning or afternoon shift.

Shifts (pre-event):

  • AM - 8:00am to 12pm Saturday to Monday

  • PM - 1pm to 5pm Friday to Sunday

Responsibility:

To conduct a thorough and impartial inspection of each vehicle presented for technical inspection. Using the Technical Inspection Check Sheets, the inspectors will make an assessment as to whether a vehicle complies or does not comply with the rules and regulations.

NOTE: Technical Inspection can include the classification or designation of vehicles.

Duties:

The inspector is to check and confirm all driver/rider safety items as required by the DLRA Rule Book using the technical inspection sheets as supplied.

There will usually be an inspector dedicated to a particular segment or segments of the inspection process. eg:

  • Checking entrants have all their documentation: DLRA Licence, DLRA Logbook, Entry Form, Technical Inspection Sheet

  • Checking all Personal Safety Items, suits, gloves, boots, helmets, undergarments that they are still current and for correct tags.

  • Checking of seat belts safety nets, arm harnesses, lanyards.

  • Observing driver bailouts. Drivers have to be sitting in their vehicle, all strapped up. with all their personal safety gear on and extract themselves from the vehicle within 10 seconds.

  • To check the vehicle logbook for any requirements from the previous year. Ensure they have been satisfactorily carried out.

  • Checking of support vehicles to ensure they have the appropriate equipment fitted and on-board.

  • Not communicate any official information to any person except to the representatives of International Organisations, the Event Committee, the Race Director and the Clerk of the Course;

  • Specialists duties will include performing engine displacement checks on vehicles attempting new records. If required you will be trained in the use of these gauges. At this stage, you will be working closely with the Impound Marshall.

 

Equipment:

Equipment can be stored daily at the Technical Inspection caravan.

  • Tech Inspection Sheet

  • Rulebook

  • Safety vests, clipboards, pens.
     

Reports to:

  • Volunteer Coordinator

  • Technical Inspection Team Leader
     

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Have excellent knowledge of the DLRA Rule Book.

  • Have good mechanical knowledge.

  • Have good communication skills and be able to take direction well.

  • You need to be firm, but polite when dealing with entrants.

  • You need to be able to stay calm under pressure.
     

What to bring?:

Bring a hat, sunglasses, sun cream, snacks. Water is provided.
